Director of Spa Operations, Montage Hotels and Resorts
Janet Denyer, a career executive in the spa industry, has held many notable visionary and leadership roles during her 30 plus years of tenure. Passionate about health, wellbeing, beauty, and the “Guest Experience,” she is grateful to have spent her career in an industry that fuels those passions.
Janet is currently the Director of Spa Operations for Montage Hotels and Resorts Montage Hotels and Resorts. She joined Montage Hotels and Resorts in August of 2013 to become the leader of the growing Spa Montage brand, which consists of a collection of exclusive luxury spas located at each of the five current Montage hotel or resort properties. Prior to joining Montage, she held the position as CEO of Gene Juarez Salons and Spas (2006 to 2012), a collection of prestigious, luxury day spas and innovative cosmetology schools in the Pacific Northwest. Janet led the growth and expansion of this multimillion dollar enterprise that upon her exit consisted of 10 expansive day spas serving 250,000+ unique Guests per year, and 2 large cosmetology schools enrolling approximately 500 students per year.
Before accepting her role as CEO of Gene Juarez, Janet was Senior Vice President of Operations for Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas (2001 – 2006). There she led the Company’s ambitious growth strategy and more than tripled the size of the Red Door Spa division via a rapid deployment of new spas across the United States. In one year, 12 new locations were opened in 9 prestigious markets with over 600 new employees on-boarded. Known at Red Door Spas for her passion for outstanding guest service, she was instrumental in improving the level of customer satisfaction by growing and elevating the level of training, while simultaneously improving the financial performance of the group.
At the time she was being recruited to join Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spas, Janet was running a highly successful spa consulting company, known as Natural Resources Spa Consulting, Inc. From 1993 until 2001, she and her team of consultants worked on over 90 spa development projects, most of which were large scale resort spas. She had the pleasure of working with the era’s best hospitality companies including Ritz-Carlton, Four Seasons, Westin, Marriott, Loews, Fairmont, Disney and others. She initiated the spa development movement for Ritz-Carlton as her firm spearheaded 18 Ritz-Carlton spa projects including the 55,000 square foot flagship Spa in Naples, FL.
Prior to consulting Janet was the Spa Director at Marriott’s Desert Springs (1986 – 1991) and before that she was the Assistant Spa Director, Fitness Director, and Senior Fitness Instructor at the Bonaventure Spa in Fort Lauderdale, FL (1981 – 1986), the latter being her first introduction to a life of falling in love with spas.
Janet has been married to her husband, Richard, for 39 years. They have 2 grown children; Matthew a creative director in the advertising world, and Lyndsey, a graphic artist. She loves music, dabbling in guitar, and lots of outdoor activities such as tennis, hiking, surfing and snowboarding. She also enjoys great healthy food, working out, and spending time with her great big labs, Beau and Luke.
