What I love most about Beauty Heroes is discovering new beauty with a purpose, and then spreading their message to our community. The longer I do this work, the more impressed I am when I encounter an emerging indie brand with a distinct point of difference and a clear voice. This is a very crowded space, and standing out takes vision, courage and grit. Supadra, founder of Siam SEAS, possesses these traits in spades.Supadra’s call to create Siam SEAS was answered readily and unconditionally. The seed was planted early in her childhood, but the call wasn’t clear until later in life, when Supadra faced her own insecurities with her chronic skin conditions. Her journey of self acceptance led her to practice the art of self-care, and through these rituals, she not only reclaimed her self confidence but discovered her love for natural product formulation. Now, every time I experience Siam SEAS, it is clear that each product is a remembrance of the traditions, scents, colors and aromas of the East, and a labor of self-love.
They say how you do one thing is how you do everything. Ever since discovering how many harmful ingredients were hiding in my skincare (and starting a company to do something about it), I have been slowly waking up to conscious consumption in other areas in my life. My most recent focus: my closet. I have so much to learn about conscious fashion, but what I know today is that traditional fashion has a dark side, and once I awaken to the facts, it’s impossible to unknow them. I recently bought shoes made from recycled water bottles, GOTS certified lounge and underwear and a fully compostable cell phone case. It feels good – and looks good – to be a part of this movement. I never felt that luxury was about labels. It has always been about quality. For me, true quality is in the intention and sustainable practices of a company, not just in its name. Happily, I’m not the only one who feels this way. We’re living in a zeitgeist of conscious consumerism, and we see businesses in all industries steering towards better, cleaner and eco-friendlier practices.
Ever marvel at the wholly regenerative capabilities of most plants and vegetables? Their miraculous ability to not only heal completely from a cut, but to fully regrow a stem and birth a new bud or fruit, is something that scientists … Continued
Anna Domi’s perfect balance of confidence and humility is perhaps one of the greatest assets a brand founder can possess. The creator of Fitglow Beauty is poised yet approachable, which made our introduction on the noisy trade show floor at the Indie Beauty Expo feel intimate and memorable, not a small feat in such a high traffic, high stakes setting.
Adriana Ayales, Founder of Anima Mundi Herbals, speaks about herbalism with a wisdom beyond her years. The eloquence and ease with which she talks of the herbs and plants she works with can only come from a life lived among them. It’s clear she possesses an intuitive gift for the healing power of plants and how they work synergistically to balance and protect the body. After our first conversation, I knew that whatever Adriana made would be of the highest quality. I am careful about inner beauty ingestibles at Beauty Heroes because the field is so vast and claims can be dubious, so I’ve steered clear of endorsing internals as Heroes. I have felt more confident focusing on whole food products because they are more easily absorbed and assimilated by the body. When it comes to Anima Mundi, I can see the quality and density of her elixirs through each clear apothecary bottle. I can taste the concentrated herbal goodness when I mix her elixirs into my daily rituals and since launching her line of ingestible wellness and beauty products in 2017, we have been overwhelmed with the positive response about the efficacy and taste captured in each unique blend.
Happy, Healthy 2018, Beauty Heroes Tribe! At the end of last year, I decided to bid adieu to our cute Superhero masks that came with each beauty discovery and replace them with our monthly #Herogram card, featuring the Hero product and an inspirational quote. We also upgraded our paper to be 100% recycled stock. From that first step, I made a promise to look for new ways to use less every day. It’s a daily practice, and I’m far from perfect, but we’ve made changes that have benefited personal and environmental health, and our company has scaled consciously and sustainably. It feels good, so I’m going to keep going, and I’d love for you to come along!
They say eyes are the windows to your soul, and we’ll take it a step further. We say eyes are the windows to your emotional and physical health. Wrinkles, puffiness and dark circles are just a few of the signs of stress, dehydration and lack of sufficient sleep (a lifestyle trifecta that usually works hand-in-hand). That’s why finding an eye care Hero product is like winning the beauty lottery. While some might want to keep it simple and find one product that works for the face and the eyes, others search high and low for ‘the one’ eye cream for wrinkles. Make no mistake…a dedicated eye cream is essential. The skin around the eye contour is unique from any other area of the body and merits special consideration due to its unique makeup.
If there’s anything more rewarding than introducing a devoted community to new beauty discoveries each month, it’s getting to know the Founders behind my favorite brands. I am always energized and enlightened by the conversations and I always take something away, whether it’s a bit of useful education, a beauty tip or words of inspiration. But in all my face-to-face meetings with Founders, never have I ever walked away with a fortune-telling. This was just one of the many gifts I received on my 24-hour whirlwind trip to Charleston to meet Susanne Norwitz, Founder of Maya Chia.

We’re hearing so much about ‘self care’ these days, it’s easy for anyone in the who follows natural beauty to assume these concepts are a part of everyday vernacular by everyday people. I often forget that we’re a new generation of women who have the luxury of thinking in such terms. A Beauty Heroes subscriber and friend who is in her 60’s recently said: “I have a hard enough time with self care…now you want me to learn how to “Abhyanga?”. She was half-kidding, but it made me realize how far we’ve come, and at the same time how much opportunity there still is, to educate on the myriad benefits of proper and intentional self-care.
