While Mindfulness at work may be the up-to-the-minute HR trend in businesses today, its a practice that the spa industry pioneered decades ago. I was first introduced to meditation about 20 years ago, about a year in to my role … Continued
Growing up in Hawaii, my daily ritual included a dip in the ocean. It was a part of the culture and was as habitual as brushing my teeth or eating breakfast. I knew instinctively that swimming in the ocean was good for my skin and body, but it wasn’t until I moved to the East Coast, thousands of miles away from my childhood paradise, that I understood the overall sense of wellbeing that came from the salt water. From mineral-replenishing ocean soaks to at-home hydrotherapy baths, our water rituals can support a healthy metabolism, circulation, reduce joint and muscle inflammation and boost endorphins.

Years ago, the spa I worked for was implementing the oil-cleansing method into their facial practice. It was my first introduction to oil cleansing and I remember how uncomfortable I felt as the company’s trainer slathered and massaged thick oil directly onto my dry, makeup-covered skin, not once, but TWICE. That’s right – a double oil cleanse to make sure my skin was really clean. Having suffered from cystic acne for much of my life, I was skeptical of the process, and a bit terrified about how my skin would respond. While some estheticians at the spa embraced this new practice, others shunned it. I was intrigued, but it wasn’t something I was going to do regularly. And I didn’t, until a few years ago.
I’ll admit it. I’m a chocoholic. And I don’t feel the least bit of shame about it. Thanks to the raw cacao bean, this is a guiltless pleasure that makes me happy from the inside out, and surprisingly, from the outside … Continued
