What’s your beauty philosophy?
For my skincare products, I have one strict rule of thumb. If I wouldn’t eat it then it doesn’t belong on my skin. This one rule has basically eliminated my monthly Sephora runs!
What is your prescription for Health?
Health begins on the inside and radiates to the outside. People always ask me what magical serum I use to maintain my glow. My answer is kale, avocado, and pumpkin seeds. Eighty percent of healthy skin is what we put inside our bodies and 20% is what we use topically. Health doesn’t have to be complicated. By focusing on eating whole foods that don’t need expiration date, your body will figure out what it needs to thrive.
Do you have a favorite ingredient?
Apple cider vinegar hands down. The multitasker in me loves how much ACV can do. Not only does it aid in digestion and ease heartburn, It’s a staple in all my homemade salad dressings. It also makes a wonderful toner and combines beautifully with bentonite clay for a healing face mask.
What inspires you?
Sunrises. When I actually get up early enough to witness a sunrise it reminds me of what is possible in my life and the world.
How do you power up in the morning?
Matcha is my go-to morning hack. I make a Bulletproof version with coconut butter, tocos, collagen protein powder, and unsweetened almond milk. It keeps me energized the entire morning!
Do you have a personal mantra?
98% healthy. 2% cupcakes. Life is too short to never have cupcakes.
Do you have a favorite spa treatment?
Massage. Deep tissue, lymphatic, Thai. I love it in all forms. One, sitting all day either seeing patients or writing leads to stiffness in my shoulders and hip joints. Two, I believe we have lost the power of touch in our definition of community. So much of our interaction is online now. I absolutely love technology and depend on it daily. When I get a massage though I’m reminded of how important physical touch is for healing. Both in myself and others.
Can you share one thing we don’t know about you yet?
One of my favorite things to do is visit Whole Foods, not necessarily to buy groceries but to tour their supplement and beauty aisles for new products. It’s weird but I’d rather do that than visit the museum.
Zen Moment: How do you unwind at the end of the day?
I’m a big fan of rituals. About an hour before I need to go to bed, I have a 7-step skincare regime that is a form of meditation for me. Then I make a turmeric latte that also contains chamomile tea, ashwagandha, and cashew milk. This ritual is a signal to my brain that it’s time to sleep!
What do you do for work, hobbies and fun?
Since moving to San Francisco, I have gone on more hikes in the past year than in my entire life. It’s my new favorite hobby. I get to exercise, be out in nature, and spend time alone with thoughts or catch up with friends.
Where are we most likely to run into you on a Sunday?
At a farmer’s market, which one of my happy places. The energy and positive vibes that come from fresh food combined with a sense of community and connection to my food fills my cup for the week ahead!
