As the awareness of the efficacy and benefits that green beauty for men has on the skin and our overall health expands, men are getting ever more green-curious. I often hear from our customers that their husbands and boyfriends will ‘steal’ a product from their beauty cabinet. Or, that their husband loves the scent of a certain face balm or toner, and maybe sheepishly uses it from time to time, perhaps uncomfortable using a ‘women’s’ beauty product. I’ve seen these scenarios play out in my own bathroom with my husband over the years. Although I must admit that at this point, he has no shame in declaring his favorite skincare products and takes no interest in whether they may be feminine, or not. He likes what he likes. And that’s great.
I have always appreciated skincare brands that present as unisex and universal. Josh Rosebrook Skin and Hair Care comes to mind first, along with Ursa Major and Osmia – brands that could easily be shared across the sink, without a thought given to their intended customer. It’s true that Beauty Heroes, while open and welcoming to all customers and subscribers, originally had ‘her’ in mind. While women make the majority of the purchasing decisions in a family setting, men can be slow to come around to changing their habits and routines around personal care. Many have used the same deodorant, shaving cream and shampoo since high school or college, and in total, use a fraction of the products most women do.
