In the conventional beauty industry, product development often begins with a forecasted trend, a marketing gap, or a manufactured problem. A concept is sketched, actives are selected, and the formula is pieced together with lab-engineered precision.
But that is not how Laurel Skin operates.
When Laurel launched her latest creation—Petal Alchemy—it wasn’t in response to market demand. It was in response to nature.
Located just 11 miles from Beauty Heroes Headquarters, Laurel Skin is a rarity in the beauty world. Every product is made from whole, raw plants—grown organically or biodynamically on small farms in Northern California and slowly transformed by hand in her lab. No extracts. No shortcuts. No outsourcing.
And this time, Laurel didn’t set out to make a serum at all.
Last Spring, she was surrounded by peak-season blooms—petals overflowing from her partner farms, an abundance she described as “an energetic invitation.” Inspired by the sheer vitality around her, Laurel followed her intuition. She began pressing flowers—rose, calendula, red clover, marigold—just to see what they might offer.
What she found was remarkable. These cushiony, vibrant petals—soft to the touch, yet dense with plant intelligence—translated to a skincare texture and performance unlike anything she had ever experienced. Rich in phytonutrients, protective flavonoids, and cell-communicating compounds, the pressed infusion offered both deep hydration and barrier support.
Infused over three lunar cycles, Petal Alchemy was born.
And I was lucky enough to see its beginnings with my own eyes.
Because Laurel Skin is so close to our headquarters, I’ve had the unique opportunity to visit her lab and the farms that supply her ingredients. Walking those fields was like stepping into a dream—rows of calendula glowing orange in the sun, rose geranium in bloom, comfrey, nettle, scarlet pimpernel, cornflower, lemon balm. The air was thick with the scent of the earth and the buzz of pollinators.
These aren’t commercial farming operations. These are small, independent growers—people who know every plant and honor the soil they tend. Their harvests are entirely gathered by hand, placed into sacks, and driven directly to Laurel’s apothecary.
It’s not just poetic. It’s practical. These plants haven’t been dried, processed, or powdered. They’re alive when they enter Laurel’s lab—and the result is skincare that reflects the vitality of its origin.
In contrast, the mainstream beauty industry takes a different path. A “serum” might consist of water, a base oil, and a few select actives designed for stability and scalability. There may be an essence of a plant, but rarely its full spectrum of compounds—let alone its energetic resonance.
This is what sets Laurel Skin apart.
Petal Alchemy isn’t designed to fix a flaw. It’s designed to celebrate what’s already working. It hydrates without overwhelming, cushions without coating, and brings the skin into a more supported, radiant state—by simply offering it the nutrients nature already perfected.
The formula is also free from essential oils, making it ideal for sensitive skin. It pairs beautifully with some of Laurel’s other most delicate, healing formulas: Essential Lipids, Soothe Compound, Calendula Single Farm Hydrosol, and the deeply calming Cornflower Mask. Together, they form a complete ritual for those seeking gentleness without compromise—formulations that work in harmony with skin’s natural intelligence.
What I love most about this serum, beyond how it makes my skin feel, is the story behind it. The way it was born from abundance, not urgency. How it came to life through observation, not formulation goals. It reminds me that beauty isn’t something we chase—it’s something we honor.
There’s something deeply comforting about using a product that was made with this much intention, care, and reverence. You can feel it in the texture, in the scent, in the way your skin responds.
This is slow beauty.
This is flower medicine.
This is Laurel Skin.
