Beauty Heroes: What inspired you to create the Better Roots line, and how does it fit within the broader EVOLVh mission and collection?
Boris: What inspired me to create better routes is that 40% of our existing EVOLVh customers told us that hair thinning is their top hair concern.
Beauty Heroes: Can you walk us through the new Better Roots products? How do they work together and complement each other to create a comprehensive hair growth routine?
Boris: Better Roots is now a comprehensive range of products for addressing hair loss thinning and even works to prevent and reverse graying. You can use any of the products individually or you can use them in combination with each other for even better results.
Beauty Heroes: If you were advising a client who has thinning hair, how would you prescribe for them to use the collection in a routine?
Boris: I would prescribe a routine based on how comprehensive or how many products a person was open to using. At the minimum I would recommend using the Better Roots RootBoost Serum after every time a person washes their hair, and if they’re open to supplementing I would also add the Better Roots RootBoost Complex and use it daily. You can also incorporate the Better Roots Growth Support Shampoo and Conditioner and the Better Roots Growth Support Styling Foam to create even more opportunities to deliver the very effective active ingredients to the scalp. Lastly, to take things even further, you can choose to apply the Better Roots Scalp + Hair Oil prior to washing your hair for additional scalp nourishing and follicle stimulating benefits. Beauty Heroes: Can you explain the science behind a few of the ingredients in the Growth Support Shampoo and Conditioner in terms of their effectiveness for hair growth?
Boris: The ingredients in Better Roots work synergistically to stimulate hair follicles to perform protein synthesis and melanin synthesis which are the two processes that create hair and the pigment that gives our hair color. Each of the active ingredients in the formulas work differently and via different pathways. For example, Swiss apple stem cells stimulate hair growth by activating dormant hair follicle stem cells, which in turn stimulates hair growth. Pea sprout extract stimulates hair growth by targeting the dermal papilla cells to activate key hair growth factors, extending the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle which then increases hair density. Copper peptides stimulate hair growth by enhancing keratinocyte activity and boosting the production of essential proteins in hair follicles. We are using a total of 9 unique clinically proven active ingredients for hair growth across the Better Roots range which creates a highly diversified mode of action which we believe creates the greatest odds of success for any given person using the products. Different pathways have a different propensity for effectiveness for any individual’s given biology.
Beauty Heroes: The RootBoost Complex supplement has been enhanced with some exciting updates. Could you walk us through these changes and share what inspired them?
Boris: We changed the source of B12 to methylcobalamin, folate to L-5-methyltetrafolate and B6 to pyridoxal-5-phosphate. After we first launched the Better Roots RootBoost Complex, we audited every ingredient for opportunities to improve quality or efficacy. Understanding the source of each nutrient is critical and this update allowed us to further elevate this supplement to ensure it is absolutely best in class.
Beauty Heroes: How did the formulation process for the new Growth Support Styling Foam come about, and what sets it apart from typical styling products?
Boris: The Better Roots Growth Support Styling Foam is so near and dear to my heart. I absolutely love it and I’m personally completely obsessed. The product was born out of my own daily use of a styling foam and recognizing that when a styling foam is applied the product gets all over the scalp, especially around the hairline which is where we want hair growth actives for supporting our natural hair pigment to be present the most. This observation inspired me to create this first of its kind styling product that incorporates hair growth actives and an active for supporting our natural hair pigment. These actives also work to balance the scalp microbiome. Incorporating all of this into a world-class styler makes this a breakthrough industry first product and I can’t wait for the world to experience it.
Beauty Heroes: What should customers expect in terms of visible results with consistent use of the Better Roots collection? Are there specific timelines or benchmarks?
Boris: I’ll start by saying that every person is unique and will have their individual experience with these products. Having said that, here’s what I believe you should expect – hair growth does take time and the best results will come after about 90 days of consistent use. One of the reasons why we created such a comprehensive broad-ranging collection is it creates numerous opportunities to deliver the active ingredients onto the scalp.
For example if you forget to use the serum then maybe you used the shampoo, you get another opportunity to get the actives delivered. If you use them all then of course you’’ll get the maximum benefit of all of these incredible ingredients but the main thing is to have many opportunities or as I like to say “many shots on goal” by having such a diverse set of products all packed with clinically proven active ingredients you can rely on. There are no rules, all of the products are effective and the more you use the better the results. Beauty Heroes: What challenges did you face when formulating the Better Roots line, especially with clean ingredients and advanced hair science? And how did you overcome these challenges?
Boris: The most difficult product to formulate was the EVOLVh Better Roots Growth Support Shampoo. Shampoos are not nearly as simple as they may look and in order to create a luxurious high-performance shampoo for supporting hair growth without compromising our clean ingredient standards was extremely difficult. It took a very long time, but we were determined to make it work and in the end we most certainly prevailed. I believe that this shampoo is truly one of the all-time greatest shampoos ever made in terms of performance and a luxurious experience. It contains the only clinically proven non-drug active ingredient for stimulating hair growth in a rinse-off application. We are extremely proud of this product and I believe that it’s going to be a very positive difference maker for a wide diverse range of users. I also want to mention that the scent and luxe texture and lather are absolutely addicting.
