Those who like to stay informed of beauty brands that specialize in traditional or ancient remedies may have already heard about 5yina, which focuses on traditional Chinese medicine that can be traced back thousands of years. 5yina has since had a subtle change to the name and is now known as YINA. This line of skincare products stands apart from many other brands in the industry since it does not just rely on fresh botanical ingredients that have been embraced for centuries and beyond, but it also adopts many of the techniques and concepts that have been used throughout all that time.
YINA uses traditional remedies known to Chinese medical practitioners for centuries, if not, millennia. It is a fascinating brand that has a lot to offer its customers, especially those who are unfamiliar with Chinese medicine and treatments. For many, this is a whole new world to explore, one that has a very long history of practice. We admire just how much the founders of YINA have researched their field and the amount of effort that went into creating these easy-to-apply balms, oils, creams, and more.
If traditional remedies or Chinese medicine has ever caught your attention, we would absolutely recommend you take a look at this brand and see what you could be doing in your routine.
Meet the Founders
YINA is the collaborative effort between Angela Chau Gray and Dr. Ervina Wu, two experts in the practice of traditional Chinese medicine. With their backgrounds of study, these two were inspired to create a modern beauty brand that takes its power from remedies discovered long in the past. Each founder brought their passion and knowledge to the table in order to create the skincare line YINA (formerly 5yina).
Angela studied ethnobotany at UC Berkeley and set herself on track to further explore herbal medicine and the power botanical ingredients can have on the human body. She went on to study and specialize in plant life that is used in Chinese medicine.
Ervina has quite an interesting history with Chinese medicine since she became her own patient. She was diagnosed with cancer and soon began treatment using traditional Chinese medicine to support her body during this battle. She made an incredible recovery and continued these practices into a very successful career in medicine. She earned a PhD in traditional Chinese medicine and clinical training in autoimmune disease, while also becoming a registered dermatologist of Chinese medicine. She is not afraid to fuse modern and ancient medical practices to achieve the best results, and she is in the unique position of being post patient and doctor.
Because of her impressive career, Ervina has been able to achieve great things alongside Angela through the brand YINA. Their education and experience are put to good use as they carefully formulate and design their products to be the most beneficial to the body as possible.
What Does Chinese Medicine Entail?
Even if you are new to traditional Chinese medicine and are unfamiliar with the practice as a whole, chances are, you have encountered some examples of it in your own life. You may have watched videos of people trying cupping therapy, sipped herbal tea to soothe a cold, or had a friend try acupuncture for aches and pains. Any one of these examples comes straight from Chinese medicine. It is much more common than you may have realized at first, but it all makes sense when you realize you have been exposed to it for much of your life.
Chinese medicine is an ancient practice that is meant to treat the body in a holistic sense, connecting the mind with the body and healing a person through natural means. The overarching idea behind it is to create balance in oneself, align energies and make the person feel well overall. It encourages maintaining a healthy lifestyle and consuming certain natural remedies such as herbal teas and broths.
In the present day, it is often used as a normal part of a healthy lifestyle to prevent issues and treat minor ones, or it is used alongside Western medicine for a complete treatment plan. With YINA, we watch these customs play out in the form of topical skincare products, designed to treat the largest organ of the body with natural, healing ingredients. These botanical extracts are absorbed into the skin and consumed by your body, so you want the ingredients and mixtures to be just right.
