A Brief but Colorful History of OSEA
Though OSEA was officially started by Jenefer Palmer in 1996, it has a history that spans back well over a hundred years.
Jenefer’s grandmother, Elsa, injured her leg in a fall when she was only 44. The injury left her bedridden.
Elsa had hope. A message came to her in a dream that the sea would heal her. The next day, she began a religious, daily routine of swimming in the gelid waters of the Long Island Sound.
Elsa’s leg healed, but for her, that was a beginning, not an ending. She founded the first Polar Bear Club in New York and continued swimming in the Long Island Sound nearly daily thereafter.
That interest in natural healing continued to run through the family. In Jenefer’s youth, she studied archaeology in Israel, developing an intense interest in natural healing, particularly with respect to mud and clay.
Later in life, Jenefer studied various healing modalities and arts, including biodynamic, craniosacral therapy, polarity therapy, shiatsu, acupressure, and Ayurveda.
In the early 1980s, Jenefer Palmer opened a spa at the historic Murrieta Hot Springs to leverage her experience to the betterment of others. Unfortunately, she was frustrated by her inability to find natural products that met her standards. At that time, nearly all skincare and beauty products were made with artificial dyes, fragrances, and other synthetic ingredients.
In the late 1980s, the spa at Murrieta Hot Springs was sold and she turned her attention to formulating clean skincare and beauty products from natural ingredients, without the need to include synthetics.
In 1996, OSEA was officially born in Jenefer Palmer’s kitchen sink. The rest, as they say, is history.
Powered by the Sea
Jenefer Palmer’s family spent a lot of time living in an intentional community by the sea. She, and the rest of her family, were inspired by her grandmother’s wisdom regarding the healing powers of the ocean in general, extending it to other natural ingredients.
When she set a course to make her own superior formulations, she keyed in on the healing powers of mud, clay, essential oils, salts, botanicals, and other natural ingredients. Specifically, she developed a keen interest in and affinity for seaweed, studying the healing properties of seaweeds, kelp, and algae that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients.
All of OSEA’s products are vegan, cruelty-free, and gluten-free. They never use phthalates, parabens, PEGs, propylene glycol, sodium laureth sulfate, silicone-based polymers, or synthetic fragrances in any of their formulations.

OSEA’s Undaria Body Polish is crafted with a delicate balance of guarana and açai seed powders, undaria algae, hemp, and passion fruit oils and capped by the pleasant addition of lavender essential oil.
